There is someone on here who is very knowledgeable about gold (I forget the user but I'm sure they will be posting soon). They said the main purpose is to hedge against volatility in fiat currency, so if most of your transactions are done in something other than currency (e.g. livestock, bitcoin, magic beans) then it is definitely an advisable strategy.

Check out these 2 miners on the FTSE100: POLY.L and FRES.L
You should get a decent divi while you hold.

As you get closer to withdrawal on a S&S balanced risk investment then I can see a case for going up to 10% gold within a portfolio as you might not want to be too heavy on bonds and it does have inverse correlation with stock market volatility. However if you are looking to profit from the current uncertainty then my guess is that it's too late as the price has already gone up so medium term prospects look unattractive.

Actually gold and silver are the only assets not currently in an inflated bubble and imho are a bargain.

Gold isn't cheap right now. How long would you hold it? How long could you afford to hold it? Do you feel lucky?

I prefer HOC to FRES, the balance sheet looks healthier. But I'd wait until mines re-open.

Given they don't generate any income some might argue they are entirely a bubble. Still gold goes up in uncertain times which is about as useful as it gets.
