How much did your will cost you?

My husband and I just got off the phone with Co-op to get a mirror will. We decided its best for us to get a trust will with lasting power of attorney for both health and finance (so it would be 4 lasting powers of attorney as 2 for my husband and 2 for me). We don't have any overseas assets and have a house that would go to the two kids. How much approximately did your wills cost you? The quote we got was for £2K+, which we are surprised with. I think we are surprised as on the website it mentions mirror wills are available FROM and gives a very low number to what we were quoted. I don't want to skimp on a will as we have two young kids, but just wondering if we are getting ripped off.

I would get quotes from independent solicitors - you also may need to think about storing them. A couple of wills cost my wife and myself about £300 during will month.

Our solicitor did both wills for £250 with legal advice thrown in.  Our solicitor was very good in making us think on things we had not given thought to.

Whilst it's sensible to get a solicitor to draw up a will (ours cost about £350 for two mirror wills + replacing our joint tenancy with tenants in common) I would question the need for a solicitor to draw up the Powers of Attorney.  Doing-it-yourself would cost £82 x 4 and is simple enough as long as you don't choose over-complicated options.  Our solicitor wanted to charge us £50 to store our wills.  We decided to put the money towards a fire and water proof safe instead.

That's not the price of the will - it's the LPAs that have bumped the price up.
As JGB says - have a look at doing those yourself.
Most solicitors will store your wills for free.

I'll second this - it's the LPA's that are expensive.
We got two mirror wills done for a £200 donation to charity during free wills month.
A separate quote for two sets of LPA's from a different solicitor was (if my memory serves me right) £1600.

    LPA forms (for England) here.

£2k sounds way too expensive unless your family estate is complicated.

...and very reasonable if it is!
