Furlough

My company has placed the workforce on furlough and have decided to top out wages up to 100%. But they have also informed us we will have to make up the hours lost to lockdown. Is this right to do or should they only be able to claim the 20% they are topping up? We don't really know where we stand at the minute as it will a lot of hours to make up when we return to work on top of normal hours.

You do not have to make up the hours that the government pay. Have a read of the government advice.

It depends on what you agreed to when furloughed. From your point of view, you are getting paid the right pay for the hours you will do, in advance. I'm not sure that it is the right thing for the employer to be doing though.0
