Travel Insurance claim

We have claimed £8500 against our Avanti Travel annual insurance for curtailment after 6 days of a 27 day holiday to Asia after the FCO advised against travel to the country
Avanti are assessing it against a “catastrophe” clause which limits claims to £500(-£75 excess)  per person.

Does anyone have any experience of travel insurance claims related to current pandemic?

If their terms and conditions are explicit about that clause then they can.

Were you specifically covered for curtailment and had cover for over the amount that you are claiming .

There'll be lots of recent experiences of travel insurance claims related to the current pandemic, but they don't matter.  What matters is what your policy covers you for and what the limits of claims are.

Havent had chance to check the small print yet, but was told yesterday the my "Gold" policy with Cover-more doesn't cover cancellation due to Pandemic.Claimed to was industry wide too.
  • I am pursuing a travel insurance claim for my lost deposit.  Holiday was booked for 25/5 and was covered by my yearly insurance
which was to run out a week beforehand when I would have renewed it again.  As I have no plans to travel for the forseeable future, and the premium was expensive, I do not want to renew at this time.  Question is: will my claim still be covered under original policy or will it be negated if I dont renew?
  • I recently put in a claim to Avanti (Delux cover), to cover getting home from a Bulgarian skiing holiday in Mid March. We were advised by the foreign office to leave Bulgaria immediately (given 6 hours notice before the resort was locked down). We had flights booked for the saturday, but Easyjet started cancelling flights for the Friday whilst we were at the airport trying to change ours to an earlier flight. We ended up paying £330 each for a Wizzair flight, plus hotel at Luton and a hire car home to Bristol. Avanti have said that we are not covered for curtailment based on FCO advise. If we had stayed, we would still be there now probably, but I bet they wouldn't have covered any expenses for being stuck there.
I'm going to take it to the Ombudsman and see what they say.

    Good luck with Ombudsman.
Did you use a credit card to pay for the ski trip?

yes, so we will hopefully get the cancelled flight costs back, but its the extra costs for getting home that was the big expense. WizzAir ripped us off on the cost of the flight (£330pp where there historic flight prices shows them at 49euros for that day!!)

As you paid the Ski trip using a credit card you can claim the costs on the new  flights from your credit card company under Section 75  "consequential loss"
