Paypal Fraud - payment made to Shopto.net company - how to claim refund

Hello,

I am going in circles with this company shopto.net.  I have reported a fraud to them as someone made a payment to purchase some "entertainment" item from their website. I have been told there is nothing they can do  about it. I am jobless due to covid 19 and was solely surviving on my savings but this is what their behaviour is towards frauds.
I have not been provided any assistance by Paypal either as they saying this is not unauthorised payment. My password on paypal was very secure so unsure how the hell someone managed to sneak in and made this payment.

Is there any help I can get to reverse this payment as I am so worried.

Thanks

  • Was the purchase funded directly by a debit card, or was it existing funds from your PayPal account? If it was funded directly by the debit card, you may be able to dispute the transaction with your bank if PayPal won’t help.

If an unauthorised payment was made from your PayPal account, you have to get PayPal to accept that, there won't be any other avenues available....

On what grounds did they reject your claim?

yoy probably won't be able to get your bank to help because PayPal is an authorised merchant to debit your bank account - you signed that agreement with them

as above you need to get Paypal to accept it was fraud

meanwhile you might want to consider how they got into your PayPal account

Non receipt of item dispute with paypal?
How is your paypal account funded? Direct Debit or taken from Debit/Credit card?

  • I have my bank account linked to Paypal but that is only used by me when I move money to from paypal. There is no credit card or debit card linked to my account. Payment was made form paypal direct for £30 . Its very strange that someone managed to get into my account and specifically made a payment of £30 when only £30 was my final balance. Paypal didn't help me either as they saying its not fraud how they figured this out remains a mystery. I am out of £30 so im in loss.

If they had managed to hack into your PayPal account then they would of course seen that the balance was £30 hence that's why they paid £30

Might be wrong, but I thought they recorded the IP address the transaction was made from?

Hi - Sorry to jump on this thread but I have had exactly the same problem.  I had over £700 worth of transactions taken to Shop.com - lots of smaller amounts e.g. £20 ish, £50 ish then finishing with £80 ish amounts.  As soon as I spotted this I contacted them.  They have said that in their opinion this was not unauthorised.  I have been back to them 3 or 4 times but each time they say they are sorry that I am frustrated but in their opinion the case is closed.  I had two cards linked to my Paypal account.  One a direct debit card, one a credit card.  The direct debit card was my default card.  Whoever managed to access my account changed the card to the credit card!!  I am the only one with the password... I'm a middle aged woman who wouldn't spend over £700 on Playstation gaming vouchers!  I'd be really grateful if anyone could give their advice?
