Universal credit, how long do I wait before they get back to me

I have never claimed any kind of welfare so I am getting a little worried that I have done something wrong. I have claimed for universal credit online nearly 2 weeks ago now after losing 100% of my self employed work and still not heard nothing back. I am sure this is now a busy time for them, but just want to make sure that is the problem, I don't want to be chasing people who are probably busy enough as it is

I also have no personal experience but on the UC portal you should have access to your "journal". That's where case workers will provide updates.
Do you have this? AFAIK the best source of info will be via that.

On your journal it will way say please don’t call us we will call you.
If you are concerned about the length of time so far (were you able to verify your identity online?) then you could pop a not on your journal either way and take it from there.1 -

Hi Magpie,
We felt the same having applied on the first weekend we were eligible and couldn't get through on the phones to book the appointment. We popped a note in the journal to say that we were trying our best to get through, within 48 hours we had been given the appointment time slot for about a months time. As it happens, they phoned me two week earlier than expected as my date fell outside the month time limit. They journal is the best way forward from my limited (also a newbie!) experience.
As for your Landlord, sorry to hear this. I work in property and some are being so so supportive, others sadly less so! Best advise is pay what you can and try to keep discussions in writing so that nothing can be lost in translation. It may be worth asking the letting agent for advise too even if it is un-managed, I can assure you, you're not the only one!
Take care.1 -
Applied for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Claim was delayed as I didn't keep an eye on the journal and hadn't completed my 'to do' list. Check you've done everything there. Was slightly complicated as my wife had to confirm things for me and vice versa. However, if there is nothing to do in your 'to do' list, send them a quick message and they'll probably ring you up quite quickly.1
