Cancelled order

Options
I paid for frozen day old chicks.  They phoned to say I might need to buy more depending on the orders they get for the rest of this week.    I am not sitting around for them-order elsewhere.    The company has taken the money-paid online by direct debit.  Can I just ask my bank to refund this should the company play funny buggers?
Thanks

At first my mind boggled as to the nature of the purchase, but then I looked at the OP's forum name and it made sense. :)

If by "direct debit" you actually mean direct debit, then ask your bank to invoke the Direct Debit Guarantee. If you mean debit card then it's not going to be so straightforward.

The DDG won't apply if the amount taken was the amount advised to OP.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
