Simplest method to purchase £5k worth of shares as a one-off

For some time I've considered purchasing some shares but never had the courage to actually go ahead and invest. I feel now may be the right time.
My aim is simple. I would like to invest £5000 in an one-off trade. The entire £5k's worth of investment will be with a single UK company's stock.
Once purchased, my aim is to leave it alone for 5 years before I look to cash-in and sell all the shares in one go. I anticipate the shares will be worth £10k at the 5 year mark.
With all said, what is the simplest and cheapest method to do this?
If a trading platform is required can someone please suggest a suitable one to meet my needs?
Thank you.

There are plenty of trading platforms. Whether its a good idea to spend £5k on a single stock is another matter.
My own personal view would be that you would be better off putting your 5k into a multi asset fund such as HSBC Global strategy ,,various flavours available,,i like the balanced ACC one.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..2 -
Putting all your eggs in one basket seems extremely risky. Investing in an active fund or investment trust with a professional investment manager gives you access to a great deal of expertise and knowledge. Even a passive fund would diversify the risk. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.2

I Use Hargreaves Lansdown for shares https://www.hl.co.uk/Around £12 per deal - note some will charge a fee to hold your shares

No charge to hold shares in our straightforward dealing account.
You can buy and sell shares in any HL account, and get started in minutes.
Once you have an account, dealing is easy. Log in, choose your shares, get a live price, and trade.
That’s it. We’ll confirm the price and charges and your shares will be held in your account.

MSE has a page comparing some of the main brokers. Have a read through. If you're doing one trade, then the cost of trading isn't that important, but ongoing platform fees might be the thing to consider.1

Raises more questions than it asks really; Why 1 company / 1 transaction? What makes you expect +100% over 5 years? Why would you sell in 5 years - is this aimed at paying a known future cost?Is this £5k an amount that matters to you, or is this a bit of fun/an experiment you can afford to lose?Personally I think the best suggestion without knowing more would be something like "it sounds like you're not very experienced, and you never know you might want to invest more in future - why not open a cheap ISA with someone like Vanguard and put your cash in a fund?" (e.g. LS80 or LS100, as I'm assuming your risk tolerance is fairly high, but still far 'safer' than punting on one individual share)1
