Shared Ownership problem-please help

I have entered a sole shared ownership contract approx. 8 years ago. At the beginning of 2020 my mother visited me but could not leave the country following the effects of the Coronavirus worldwide. All flights were cancelled and most if not all the countries adopted a lockdown approach. She asked me if she could move in my flat with me on a permanent basis. I have no problem with this but will my landlord have? Should she decide to move in apart from the Council tax is there anything else I might be asked to pay ? Can the landlord currently owning the remaining 80% ask me to pay an increased rent, despite the fact I pay for all the bills? As to the Council (Council tax) what kind of documents can the council ask me to provide them with? Can the Council ask me to provide them with a statement declaring I am no longer a sole resident? In that case can I produce the document or do I need to approach the landlord and discuss the matter with them?

You just need to approach the council and tell them - the council tax side is completely separate to any issues regarding rent etc. The council won't need any evidence to remove your discount other than your mother's details for their records.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
my uncle has made a will and i am the sole benefactor and executor. my uncle has a 25% share ownership to his 1 bedroom flat, upon me inheriting his share do i pay inheritance tax on the property.0

Inheritance tax is paid out of your uncles estate, reducing any available money / shares / property / possessions etc. Have a quick Google about inheritance tax and if you have any more questions, start your own thread as it's easier for members to respond.eyre20 said:my uncle has made a will and i am the sole benefactor and executor. my uncle has a 25% share ownership to his 1 bedroom flat, upon me inheriting his share do i pay inheritance tax on the property.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Do you still live in the s/o property? If so then the landlord who owns the other 80% isn't going to care. Your rent is your rent regardless of it just being you living there or you and your mum or you and a bidey-in.ffan4540 said:I have entered a sole shared ownership contract approx. 8 years ago. If you are claiming a single person discount on your council tax you will need to contact the council to inform them you are no longer living alone.0
