Partial rebate of insurance premium

I got a one month insurance policy (which was recommended on MSE) to go to Australia for a month.
As the flight was cancelled, I assumed I'd get a full rebate. But they only offered me 50%. It was pretty expensive anyway (£170). I'm 71, but have a clear health record.
The guy said that I'd already been using it, as I purchased the insurance about 2 months prior to departure [also recommended on this site]. I suppose he was referring to the part of the insurance whereby I would be able to cancel prior to departure if I needed to. But doesn't this come with most packages?
I have a friend who is in his 70s and got a full refund for a Portugal flight [which only cost him £40 for 2 weeks].
Do I need to feel hard done by??! I'd like to get back to the provider (Planet Earth) to negotiate a better deal - if I had some ammunition.
Thank you - John in the North West

No, you don't need to feel hard done by.
The insurance did its job. And a 50% refund is very generous.3 -
You were covered form the day you bought the insurance for cancellation due to ill heath, death, jury service etc so in effect you have used a 2/3rds of a portion of it.mcbryde said:I got a one month insurance policy (which was recommended on MSE) to go to Australia for a month. As the flight was cancelled, I assumed I'd get a full rebate. Thank you both for your replies.I wonder how my friend received a full refund...??0

Probably because your friend had a policy that only covered the trip itself, rather than the build up to it as well. That would explain why his policy was so much cheaper than yours.0
