Possibly the wrong section for this post. I am just looking for people's opinions on home Ecosystems? I currently have Hive Thermostat and 7 hive bulbs around the house. I am moving house in around 4 - 6 weeks time and I can't decide if I should get another Hive Thermostat or change to Google Nest. What do people prefer?

If you're happy with Hive then you might as well stick with it. I have Nest and like it but I think they're both equivalent in terms of features.
You could always buy a cheap wireless thermostat for the property you're vacating and take the Hive with you rather than buying another one.

Not sure if Im happy with Hive or not, it's handy being controlled from my phone, but I feel the thermostat is never accurate, it always seems to report a warmer temp than there actually is, I've tried calibrating it and even had the thermostat replaced free from British Gas. I like the idea of Nest having opentherm compatibilty for better efficiency. Original plan was just to take hive with me, but it's specifically written into the home report for some reason so it has to stay

Nest may have OT capabilities but does the boiler it will be installed on have it?

As a heating engineer, I've installed both. I find the Nest much better quality than the Hive and much more intuitive. It is a little more expensive but I'd rather pay that little bit more for a better quality product. Plus it has 2-year warranty instead of the Hive's 1 year.

From a design perspective the Nest is much nicer too, the Hive feels and looks very cheap in comparison to the Nest. The only benefit of the Hive is that it's battery powered, whereas the Nest needs to be hardwired or installed with a plug-in stand.

The current installed boiler doesn't support it natively, there is an adapter kit I can get to convert the opentherm signal to Bosch standard EMS but it's an older inefficient boiler so I will probably be upgrading it in the next year or so anyway
  • I have had a Nest for about 5 months now and like the features.  However, I hate the temperature differential of 1 centigrade (21C the room temperature varies between 20.5C (call for Heat) and 21.5C (maximum/overrun temperature following the heat cycle). The body notices this change, so you are often cold whilst you wait for the heat to come back on. Other systems have an adjustable setting for this or it's 0.5C.
