Villa refund

Hi all ,
I had a family villa booked for the May half term , May 25-31st. British airways have since cancelled flights and kindly refunded the money however when I emailed the villa company in Lanzarote and it’s not been so plain sailing .
I have paid £1100 deposit and they have said they won’t refund but if I pay the outstanding balance £2500+ by Monday then I can book the villa for a later stage . As it is unlikely we’ll get the family altogether for such a holiday the family have decided that it wouldnt be wise to go down a ‘voucher ‘ route . The villa company are now putting pressure on for me to pay the remaining balance by Monday (as agreed when I booked originally in August ) or lose deposit and booking .
I have contacted Barclaycard who I paid the deposit via ,as I used my Barclaycard to make the booking , and filled out a disputed form. Just wondered , do you think I’ll have any success with this or should I become resigned to the fact I’ve lost the £1100.
Thanks in advance !

They've offered a voucher so the section 75 claim on your credit card is very likely to be refusedEx forum ambassador

I'm afraid you have a difficult choice. Pay the balance and get a voucher/re-booking or possibly a refund much further down the line. Don't pay the balance and you probably forfeit all of your deposit.
As Browntoa says, credit card action is likely to fail. It definitely can't be used to recover your deposit if you cancel by not paying the balance.1 -
Oh Lordy ... was hoping that wouldn’t be the case ...
But surely if Lanzarote is still in lockdown they can’t provide the service I paid for so shouldn’t that technically warrant a refund ?0 -
There's your problem. You don't know if it will be by the end of May. If it is available then they've offered more than they need to by offering a reschedule.Ftba.d said:Oh Lordy ... was hoping that wouldn’t be the case ...

When is the balance due?0 -
Monday unfortunately and I can’t argue that as to be fair that was the date given way back when we first booked in August so it’s not like they’re trying to pull a fast one or anything .0

Just to update . Still not heard anything from Barclays after sending them all the relevant docs to dispute the villa deposit payment .
Not holding out any hope0
