Holiday insurance pause

I have annual holiday insurance ,with a few pre existing conditions and 69 yrs old, my premium is around £350.00 , so far I have lost a few planned holidays for this yr due to the virus ,I have had refunds on some and don't intend to claim on any others, The policy has six months to run ,as I can't see myself risking abroad within the next six months ,I called to see if I could suspend or get a refund for the remainder ,the only option I was given was to take out a new policy in August and get ,15 months for the price of 12 with a pro rata discount of the existing policy , this sounds like possibly throwing good money after bad , there was no option of a cancellation or refund ,this sounds unfair as I am unable to use the current cover for anything with no hint of when it may be safe

You say you don't intend to claim on any others, that suggests you have other holidays paid for. If that is the case, the insurance has been providing cover for these, and will continue to do so.

I too have an annual travel insurance policy and had exactly the same disappointing response, so I assume the travel insurance company is Staysure. I purchased the policy last year for £250 with the expectation of taking several holidays in 2020. On contacting them, I was told that “cancellation of a policy after the 14 day cooling off period is possible but no refund would be available to you in line with our terms and conditions” and that they were “unable to put this policy on hold in any way”. What they didn’t say is that the actual wording in their terms and conditions is “If the notice of cancellation is received outside the 14 day cooling off period no premium will be refunded, however discretion may be exercised in exceptional circumstances ...”. I don’t think that anyone would say that the current travel circumstances are not exceptional ones! I too was offered the same option involving buying a new, pro rata discounted 15 month policy as a “gesture of goodwill” . However, The Foreign Office have already advised against non-essential travel up until 16 April and it now advises against travel 'indefinitely' which effectively means, in my opinion, that this latter offer is of limited, if any, value. In contrast, I have just received a pro rata refund from Bettersafe insurance company on my car hire excess insurance after they contacted me suggesting that I could cancel the policy in view of the on-going travel restrictions. Needless to say, I look forward to renewing my policy again with this company once travel returns to normal.

You received the same response as me because you are with the same company , Staysure
Maybe starting a thread Staysure holiday insurance would provoke a better reaction0
