April 2020 - Loss of loved one and what happens after

Options
My dear father-in-law passed away on 2 April 2020, 6 days short of his 91st birthday.   It took a bit of effort, but we got the death certificate on Thursday 9 April and he was buried on Friday 10 April, regrettably with no-one in attendance, apart from the minister officiating.

He made sure we knew where to find all the necessary bills, statements and pension information so we could deal with all the account closures.  He was very meticulous with his paperwork and everything was paid up to date.  We've done the 'tell us once' service on-line.  I have spoken to the various service providers and all have cancelled immediately.  Only the credit card company asked for a copy of the death certificate.  The contents insurance remains in place for 90 days.  That will give us more than enough time to clear the property.  From reading the other thread, I will contact the water authority tomorrow and see what they say.

We will be dropping in the death certificate to the solicitor tomorrow and then sorting out closing the bank account.  Where an organisation requires sight of the original death certificate, we can only deal with one at a time, as we only have 3 copies.  One will be retained by the solicitor.  We'll have to keep one in reserve and send the other one back and forth.  I have no idea how long the post is going to take these days.  Saying that, the registrar posted the certificates on Thursday and we got them on Saturday.

I think we've covered everything so far, but if we've missed anything, perhaps someone could advise.
