car tax renewal
i recently went on line to pay my car tax but accidently went into a site www.vehicleinformation.uk. this appears above the official site and looks familiar. however i unwitingly subscribed to their site thinking i was paying my car tax. anyone else come across this.

Only in the small print. It'd be easy enough to think you're only paying for a 50p check.

Lots of people have.There are dedicated threads/information in the appropriate forums here about these sites and what ou can do about them - this is a widespread issue and not motoring-related.

Yes, if you don't use an adblocker in your web browser, sponsored (paid) links do appear above others in search results. They clearly state they're sponsored, though.moonly said:this appears above the official site
Why didn't you just go type in the URL from your V11 tax reminder, though? You don't need to search, because they've given you the right URL?
Looking at that site's front page doesn't even give any obvious indication that this is the right place to tax your car. It does, however, state the charges right on the front page.
These scam sites have been around for years. Not just car tax - driving licences, tv licences, passports, ehic cards. Everything.
