Moving house, private rented

Hi I was served section 21 by my landlord shortly before lackdown. I am supposed to vacate on 2nd May. I have had the letter off the government to say I’m extremely vulnerable and to stay home for 12 weeks. Iv explained this to my landlord and he said fine you can stay while you are under order. I have found a new house I want to rent/move to. I’d like to apply for it to enable securing it for when I’m allowed out. Does this mean I would have to pay the rent on 2 properties till I can move?

More than likely yes. You cant expect to live rent free in House 1 and then have the House 2 landlord not getting a penny1

Can you see if you can arrange a move in a safe way? Otherwise you'll have to see what the old and prospective new LL's are prepared to allow (how long leave the new property empty for instance). I'd advise talking to them both. I wonder if removal companies are doing anything to reduce risks for their operatives and clients whilst still moving clients (I know a lot aren't) - it might be worth asking if any solutions have been found by some removal companies..0

Where in the OP did they mention they are living rent free in their current properties?bradders1983 said:More than likely yes. You cant expect to live rent free in House 1 and then have the House 2 landlord not getting a penny
I will talk to the landlord of the new house, I doubt many people are lining up to rent the property in this lockdown. They might be ready to delay your moving in date until later.0 -
So what do you suggest, stay in house 1 until restrictions are lifted for me, then look for another house to rent which may take time? Just not sure where I stand with landlord, originally I’m supposed to leave by 2/5/2020.0

Is that just when the section 21 expires? Because that doesn’t actually end the tenancy if so, you can stay until you are evicted by the court, but I’m sure you’d be able to find somewhere before it came to that.marsiwalsh said:So what do you suggest, stay in house 1 until restrictions are lifted for me, then look for another house to rent which may take time? Just keep your current landlord in the loop and keep paying your rent if you possibly can.0
