Direct debit Sainsbury’s bank and bank holiday

Hi everyone,
So I pay my Sainsbury bank cc each month via direct debit. Each month it comes out on the due date no problem. My CC payment is due today (bank holiday)  but the DD hasn’t come out. Does anyone know when it will likely come out? I’m also a little worried it will cause a late payment to be recorded and I will loose my 0% offer on the card?
Thanks in advance

It will almost certainly come out on the next bank working day, which is tomorrow (Tuesday).

Assuming it's a direct debit, as opposed to a Standing Order, Sansburys bank are responsible for taking the direct debits, so if they're late taking it, it's their fault not yours - so there will be no late fee, no loss of 0% deal etc.  (Unless, for example, they try to take it but it's rejected through lack of funds.)

Yes - don't panic - they'll take it - and you won't be penalised. (Assuming you have the funds to cover the payment)

So this didn’t go as anticipated.

My direct debit wasn’t requested by Sainsbury’s until Tuesday despite my payment due date being the 10th April. Because they requested it late, my card was hit with a late payment fee and there was nothing I could do to avoid it. I anticipated the payment be taken early, or their banking system would account for the bank holiday and thus recognise the payment would go in the next available working day.

Spoken to them several times; was told it would be removed by end of day (didn’t happen), would be credited on my next statement (didn’t happen), and most recently that it would be resolved by Monday next week.

Also been told there will be no impact to my 0% introductory period and reference agencies would not be updated. Will be livid if it goes down as a missed payment.

Hi exactly the same boat. March bill Due date was Good Friday - always paid in full via DD but payment didn’t go out until Tuesday and now have the late payment fee. Have never had this issue before on any accounts however most payments usually go out at the start of the month. We’ve emailed them & will be following up with a call if no response..

Currently waiting for the PDF statement to appear on my account (they've already worked out the next minimum payment and due date, so not sure why it's not available to view) to confirm whether they have charged interest on the balance. They quoted Monday next week to allow 5 working days for their latest resolution (late payment adjustment) to clear. I'm more concerned about the missed payment being reported to reference agencies even after their absolute assurances that it will not escalate further.

Never had an issue on any credit agreement (mortgage/PCP/credit cards/phone/utilities) in the past around direct debits and bank holidays, which makes this more frustrating.

Please update with how you get on, be interested to see if others get it resolved and any further impacts :)
  • Refund from Sainsbury’s and they sent out a mail saying won’t impact credit score. Fair enough, they’ve acknowledged mistake and sorted it!
