Cashing out a Bond of a deceased person

Options

Hello,

My mother was married to a UK citizen and they used to live in Spain. He passed away 4 months ago.

He left a will leaving everything to my mom but specifically pointing out all assets in Spain.

My mom has found within his documents a UK National Savings Income Bond.

I have never invested in bonds, so I know very few about them.

According to my researches so far, he didn’t write a will in UK.

1)      What are the steps in order to cash out the bond? Who does she need to contact (in UK I guess)?

2)      The fact that she has the original hard paper that proves the ownership of the bond means that the bond still exists, or it could have already been cashed out? How does she can verify that?

3)      Is there a deadline to inherit a bond?

Any help or guideline will be appreciated 😊
