KGRyder - how did you get into it in October to take your initial reading
so you could notify the original supplier and then switch to Octopus.
We didn't, the check in inspector did. When I went to double check his meter reading was correct I noticed that the door lock was broken.
So you have no means of confirming that opening reading  :(? Never trust anyone to take readings on your behalf, especially not an estate agent.

My method of getting into thousands of sheared off plastic triangular locks as a meter reader for 20 years  was to open a pair of thin  nosed pliers a little, press firmly against the stub and turn anti clockwise a little..I even locked it again the same way.. Not many ever defeated me . If you lever hard enough in the door crack the lock will completely wreck itself .. Thats OK but then if I did that the occupier would blame me ..If the lock is destroyed a couple of strips of gaffer tape will do the job until a new lock is bought from Ebay

it sometimes helps to push the door in firmly whilst twiddling the latch.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Thank you everyone for your help. We eventually managed to get in by using a melted hot glue gun stick.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
