Supermarket delivery slot, Extremely vunerable

Hi
My husband has received letters from the NHS classing him as extremely vulnerable, so we should get priority delivery from the supermarkets, who apparently have the database

As I do the online shop with my email and my name, how are these supermarkets actually finding the people.
I spoke to Tesco last week and registered a new account under his name -  no further contact made
Sainsburys he has an account and did banking - his email address isn't showing as vulnerable - and we can't log in either

I can't understand why this is so hard, why there isn't a form that you can register as vulnerable on each website where the NHS number can be inputted so it can be immediately cross-checked and referenced with the address

  • From what I can gather from receiving those letters myself is that you still have to register on https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable . You don't get automatic priority delivery slots. While filling in the form you will be asked if you have anyone who can get shopping for you, or fetch meds, etc. If you tick that you do have someone then I don't think you get recognised as vulnerable for delivery slots by the supermarkets. You need to say that you have no way of getting groceries without home deliveries. I also think that because your husband isn't usually registered with the supermarkets for groceries then they won't be cross checking his name, and some, if not all, of the supermarkets are not taking new registrations, so for people who have never shopped online before but now need it then it's very difficult.
I wish you the best of luck.

I'm finding it difficult as I usually shop in store and I haven't got a good online purchase history with anyone.

Ocado started delivering here at the beginning of the year and I'd been having a weekly delivery with them since they started up. However they said they could not offer me priority access with them as I wasn't shopping with them prior to 2019. Not quite sure how I was supposed to have shopped with them prior when they didn't deliver here!

I just keep refreshing websites several times a day and shopping with whoever I get can get a slot with.
Here I go again on my own....

I then I think you get sent a food parcel too evenn though they must be lots of people who would like delivery slots but don't need a food parcel.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

It would be worth checking your local council website, as most are running support networks. There are also many Mutual Aid Groups with volunteers who can shop for you if you cant do it online. Check your County or City Councils site. I hope you find a solution soon.
