Removing fireplace which was previously gas

I’ve recently purchased a ground floor flat built in 1990s. The previous owner had an electric fire suite which I want to get rid of. There had been a gas fire in there before and there are 2 “pipes” in the wall, one in the upper left & one in the lower right. I’m presuming they are some sort of vent for when the gas was used? My question is, will I be able to cover these as I just want to be able to have a blank canvas? I’m obviously going to get a professional in to do the work as I’m clueless but just wondered what was going to be involved. Thank you :-)

Was the fire situated on an outside wall. if so is there any vent covers outside?
It does not look like standard vents for gas fire. Not sure about them?
I would be more concerned about the chrome gas supply pipe on bottom right hand side.
That would have to be properly disconnected, at source if possible? That would need engineer.
If required filling up holes, some pollyfiller on rest and sander does not require tradesman.
Also popping on new piece of skirting. DIY
What is the box part covering on bottom righthand side?

It was on an internal wall with a deep storage cupboard behind it and the staircase to the upstairs flats. I sent the photos to my dad and he seems to think that it might be where they fed electrical cables behind the wall as they had a TV above the fireplace. I’m going to pull the fireplace out again tomorrow and feel for a draught and he suggested playing a radio or something next to the bottom hole and seeing if I can hear it coming out of the top one.I’m pretty sure that the gas would have been disconnected properly but I’m going to check with the company that carry out the inspections for the property. The box on the bottom right has a pipe inside it so thinking that probably goes outside for ventilation or was where the gas came into the property? Never had a gas fire before so not familiar with the layout.0

I think your dad is correct, it looks like standard plastic pipes put in the wall to carry cabling, one for the TV above and one for the previous gas fire, or possibly a cable was fed from the plug through the pipe on the bottom right and out the top left to the TV. As the fire isn't build into the wall I'd doubt there would be any venting going on there.1
