What have you been doing for the last 3 weeks?
Did you not find it odd when you were denied access to your workplace?
Presumably you should have been paid sometime over the last 3 weeks. Did you not find it strange that you were not?
If you have now been made redundant, then you should be paid not only for the work you have done, but for any pay due in lieu of notice, and redundancy pay.

Oh, welcome to MSE btw...

Uc can be claimed providing you don't have savings/capital of more than £16,000. It's very unlikely it will be backdated because they will only back a claim for a maximum of 1 month and that's only in the most extreme circumstances. This won't count for that i'm afraid. Use a benefits calculator to see what you maybe entitled to.

If you claim tax credits then this will stop if you claim UC.

  • i was ‘laid off’ because of covid  the morning of the day the chancellor announced his furlough scheme. Employer contacted me then to say he would furlough me under this scheme and would  pay me when he claimed it. I suppose at that time it wasnt very clear to anyone how it was intended to work. I assumed i would get paid sometime towards the end of april which i could cope with. Then employer discovered he was expected to pay me in meantime and he couldnt afford to and didnt  want to take out loan from government to cover it so instead sent out p45 with promise to re-employ when its all over.  Redundancy hasnt been mentioned. Am i entitled to pay in lieu of notice because its covid related? T

Doesn't sound as if your employer has an HR advisor. Questions better suited to the Employment Forum. As there's a number of issues that seem to have arisen.

The fact it's COVID related will not make any difference. Termination of contract will be subject to normal employment law.
In the meantime if your income is low you may be able to claim Universal Credit.
    Information here https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
    Claim online https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim

There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement  https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

You will be excluded from claiming UC if you have capital/savings over £16,000.

Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits you currently get.

You may also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction from your local council

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
