Marisota

Hi there!
My daughter's Marisota account has been hacked and someone has ordered themselves a nice new i Phone at £1000. Her password has been changed she can no longer access her account. Marisota phones are not being answered due to the virus. I have told her to email them and also to report it to the police. So far she has had no response. Does she have any protection from this fraud or will she be liable for the purchases?

Please advise as she has been wrongfully dismissed from her job, has no income and is very worried.

Thanks

Gordon

Has the email on the account been changed?

It depends how the hack came about. If she shared her details or compromised her account in some way, she won't get anything.  Otherwise, it's best reported and then wait for the outcome.

The priority must be to de-couple whatever card or account she uses from the site. She should do that through her bank or card issuer. That should prevent any further transactions.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
If the account has been hacked, had it’s password changed, and an iPhone ordered to a new third party address then these are all red flags so I would suspect the order will have been held for fraud checking.

When the email is finally picked up it will be dealt with and I don’t think your daughter will lose out.

  • Hello Gordon - I have today had this happen to me - an iphone and a games console one to be delivered to Birmingham and one to Coventry - and my email address was changed.  I  finally got through on the telephone and found them to be really helpful and reassuring - in my case I elected to have my account closed immediately.  For the sake of compleatness I did also write an email to them and completed their order cancellation forms as well .. just in case!. It took a while to get through on a premium rate phone line but I decided a £5ish telephone bill was very little compared with a potential liability for a £lk fraudulent goods order!  They also confirmed they do not store credit card records on their files so needn't worry about that.

Alternatively, please call our advisors on 0345 071 9019 for retail complaints or 0345 026 3899 for credit account complaints.

Found in seconds, and I'd never even heard of Marisota.

Some people think a 0345 number is premium rate.....

  • Same thing has happened to me today. Lots of spam emails overnight. Have not been able to get through to Marisota yet and website down. Order confirmations for iphone etc came through info@marisota.e-comms.net is this a genuine email?
  • Finally got through to Marisota. They confirmed all items had been cancelled by credit team due to inaccurate account details.
