I have 2 x TSB classic plus, a HSBC standard, First direct & nationwide flex direct accounts that are redundant and need to be closed down. (yes they need to be closes down please don't suggest keeping them for a switcher offer)
from previous experience, (although it was a while ago so i can't remember exactly) it's not always easy to close accounts and you sometimes need to write letters or go into branch, so somebody on here suggested just switching into an existing account, and then closing the last one down
anybody have any experience of the above banks, that could suggest the best order to do this in?

Why don't you just switch them all into whichever current account you plan to keep active, i.e. your 'main' one?1

I just wanted to check whether you are suggesting writing letters is difficult?fenwick458 said:it's not always easy to close accounts [...] sometimes need to write letters

The easiest bank to switch to thevlot into is monzo
if you open a monzo account on your smartphone you can then switch them via the monzo app into monzo
if you don't want to open a monzo account then I would suggest using the Nationwide account because you can also switch online by logging onto their internet banking and switching the other accounts into Nationwide2 -
You'll find that a CASS switch is by a long way the easiest, and most cost effective, method of closing superfluous current accounts.Forum_Name said:I just wanted to check whether you are suggesting writing letters is difficult?fenwick458 said:it's not always easy to close accounts [...] sometimes need to write letters

FD & HSBC just send a secure message and it should be closed pretty quickly, so long a zero balance. Might take a bit longer at the moment as closing, and opening new account is not top priority.Life in the slow lane1

Monzo and Starling allow you to CASS your old bank accounts into to those accounts in the respective apps so it's very easy.2

Some i have closed via secure message. Santander (i know you didn't list them, but in case anyone else is reading who this applies to) and Nationwide have let me do this.Others a phone call or a letter if secure messaging isn't available. I always try SM first.1
