  • Or you could be a good Samaritan and let your neighbour borrow your car (checking that it is insured).

Most insurance policies will have a term about not using the vehicle for "hire or reward" ... renting out your car may well breach that term. (I know that they mean this in terms of the policy holder not using it as a taxi, but the wording is woolly enough to extend to vehicle renting).

I have borrowed a family members car before whilst mine was in the garage. My insurer would not add it as an additional vehicle as I did not own it. Solution we used was temp cover. Its not the cheapest but you can get cover for a set number of days up to 30 on a vehicle even if you don't own it.

    Tempcover and dayinsure are two.
Just be aware that you need to trust the person not to abuse the car and have a discussion about what happens in the avent of an accident to avoid any upset later if the unfortunate should happen.
  • Won’t you need your car to get to work anyway?
