Hotel goes bust but booked through Expedia - refund

I booked a hotel through Expedia, the hotel closed due to Covid-19 but then went into Administration and ceased trading a day later. I was due to travel 2 days later.  I am having trouble getting Expedia to accept this and will only reply that they are waiting on a response from the hotel which they are not going to get!  Any advice?  I am considering contacting my credit card company for the refund.

If Expedia paid the money to the hotel then they will not be able to refund you unless the hotel refunds the money to them. If the hotel has ceased trading they are unlikely to refund Expedia

How do you know the hotel has entered Administration rather than just temporarily close due to the virus?  If reported in local news or through a local business source, perhaps send the url link to Expedia.  That might address the issue of them trying to contact the hotel and the reply about awaiting a response.

If booked as a package then Expedia.co.uk would have responsibility to either seek a new hotel for you or offer a full refund on your package trip.  If just a hotel stay, as Caz3121 mentions, not that straight forward.

Are you able to make a claim through your travel insurance?
