Antivirus software (1 PC lifetime edition) license is only 5 years!

  • Did you buy direct from them or a third party? Is this bitdefender?

Typically software companies do make it explicit, what they're offering. This is because they are only granting you a licence and not placing specific restrictions works in your favour rather than theirs. I would be surprised if they didn't have a clause stating it was a 5 year limitation, and also specifying that it's tied to the mobo.
I don’t disagree with you, most reputable software companies will explicitly say that.  This software company did not mention it at the point of sale, or through the documentation received from them.
I don’t want to mention the company name, because I am in contact with their support team.

Who knows, they may resolve the issue. I want to give them a chance.

The vendor is making up fairy stories by claiming manufacturers all say their  PCs has a life of 5  years
Dell have just offered me a 12 month extention for £ 90.00 on Optiplex 539XV42 which was purchased on 6 April 2015
I have no issue with the OP asking Dell for a quote on extending the warranty on this PC if they wish to argue the case with the vendor
Why not ask Dell for an extension cost on your Precision

    From Dell themselves:
Use this form to request a service contract extension or upgrade. Business customers with a dedicated account team should contact their team for service contract extension or upgrade. Please note: You can extend your Dell warranty for up to 5 years from the original date of purchase for commercial laptops, desktops, all-in-one PCs, 2-in-one PCs and workstations for work, 4 years for consumer laptops, desktops, all-in-one PCs, 2-in-one PCs and Alienware products for home, and 3 years for tablet devices. Dell does not offer warranty extension for printers.

I am not quite sure that you understood  what I wrote
Your quoted web page is irrelevant and unhelpful to the OP since It is out of date   because  Dell will  offer to warranty some of their PCs until they are 6 years old.
You posting this in answer to my post unfortunately  implies  you think I am either an Idiot or a Liar
The asset tag quoted can easily be checked on line to show a purchase date of  06 April 2015
This is an extract from  the Dell quote I received yesterday from our Dell account manager  which clearly says they will sell warrant for that PC which actually takes it 5 days  beyond 6 years

Oh I understood your post. You said the vendor is "making up fairy stories" yet the quote from Dell's own website supports the "fairy story".

I'll also point out that you're paying for a warranty. If dell thought their machines should last 5/6 years (depending on whether commercial or consumer), why would they be asking you to pay for a product to cover you for the eventuality that it doesn't last? But that's really besides the point - since estimated lifespan and actual lifespan are two separate things.

Again, software typically always has limitations like this due to the way licensing works . So regardless of what any manufacturer places the estimated lifespan of their machines at, it has no bearing on software licensing. Just the same as "unlimited" minutes promised by mobile phone companies aren't actually unlimited.
