Well you can't go far wrong with a Honda, but that one is going to be costly to run, fuel, tax etc, but if you don't do many miles a year it is certainly one to consider.
Ah okay. I did run it through a calculator and it said it would be low cost. I guess I need to recheck.

Work is half an hour away.
We do use the motorway to go visit grandparents a couple of hours away but that's not too regular.

Wow okay that's a surprise. I don't know these things and I'm guessing nor does my friend. 😂

Unless your budget is very limited leaving you with no choice, or your getting the car for next to nothing, then I think it's a false economy to buy a 14 year old car when for around £5k more you could buy something far, far newer, say around 5 years old or less, possibly with a few years of manufacturers warranty to avoid any major repair bills for a couple of years and would last you a lot, lot longer.

How long is that 14 year old car going to last, maybe one or two and likely needing repair work?

Get a 4 or 5 year old car, look after it, it's going to last you 5 years easy, possibly 8 or 9 years if you keep it until you scrap it. Plus you know you'll get the benefit from any repairs because it's got a lot more life left in it, rather than spending out on repairs on a car that's already at end of its life.

    Yes that's very true.
Unfortunately money is an issue and we don't really have 5k hence I guess I was wondering about leasing a car as I'm not sure if it works out cheaper long-term.
We have about 1.5-2k to spend on a car.

And I think I've roughly spend £1300 on repairs over the 4 years
£1500 for the Zafira and traded in an old car to get to that price.
