Travel Insurance

I renewed our annual travel insurance in early February, we had travel and a  holiday booked, initially for late March, then postponed until June. My wife has COPD and is classed as "At Risk" so we cancelled. Fortunately our travel agents (Dial a Flight) managed to obtain a refund for our flights in the form of vouchers and the hotel agreed a full refund.
Seeing as this Covid situation looks like to continue for a good while yet  I asked my insurance company if they could freeze the policy until the travel problems were over however the answer was a flat NO!.
As we are both "seniors" with various health issues our annual policy cost over £800 so I am a bit peeved to say the least.
The only option we have is to cancel the policy subject to applicable fees and obviously a deduction for the period of cover already expired.

I'm planning to let my policy run as I'm a known customer to them and have enhanced cancellation cover.

Once this is over I'm hoping that on renewal this may help with the premium  costs( but I don't hold out much hope for that )

Premiums are in for a steep rise and if a vaccine becomes available that it's a mandatory requirement for valid insurance . You will be asked to notify them of any doctors or hospital visits during this period , this will invalidate cover if you lie . Normal practice is to request full medical records in the event of a claim.

Vaccination is also likely to be mandatory for travel abroad , many countries are already insisting on having a clear covid 19 test result before admitting you .

Sadly they cannot cancel as this would be risk free for customer.
