Storm Dennis cancelled holiday - getting nowhere

Hi there, I'm hoping someone may be able to help me!
Cutting a long story much shorter, we were due to go to Iceland in February until Storm Dennis turned up!
Our holiday had originally been booked through Thomas Cook! We have an ATOL certificate confirming it as a package holiday. Thomas Cook had made the booking through Expedia with an Easyjet flight and a hotel booked. As Thomas Cook had paid for all of these before they went under, we were still ok to go.
Easyjet cancelled the flights the day before we were due to go and neither we, nor Easyjet, could get an alternative flight until the day before we would have been due to come home so we did not go.
I have completed a refund form with Easyjet and not heard anything other than the 'we have your form and will be in touch', Expedia said there is nothing they can do about the hotel costs and our insurers say we are not covered as we do not have abandonment on our policy - although, we hadn't been anywhere to be abandoned! I assumed Cancellation covered us.
Surely we cannot be out of pocket for something that was out of our control?
Obviously with much bigger issues at the moment I understand that companies are under even more pressure with more people looking for refunds but could someone offer any advice on whether I should be targeting my efforts towards Expedia, Easyjet, our insurers or ATOL (although I think this would only apply if Expedia went under?)
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Tracey
