Can I have the Job or will my banrkuptcy effect it - Urgent!:(

I was declared b.rupt in june 2005. I have bought 'check my file' and it does not show but now I have been offered a job as an underwriter and the new firm which be to sign to a security check with securtity watchdog who check for ccj/s/bankruptcy and electorol role registrations in the last 6 years.

My credit file is fine now and I am no on the E Roll but now I am wondering if I should tell them I was made b'rupt as I was never asked about my credit history at the time of interview or application. I have worked in insurance all my life and i'm now also wondering If I am allowed too??? I can't find any info and I am now not only concerned about the new job but also about my exisiting!!!

PLEASE HELP-Distressed person

its sounds like bankruptcy would be a factor in whether you get this job. I would be tempted to stay quiet and wait until they ask you outright...

Your current manager can't sack you because another employer asks for references!

Absolutely correct!! If your current employer did sack you, you would be able to sue them for unfair dismissal...and seeing that you are now discharged, that money would be ALL yours to keep! it's a win win!:j
  • Sorry I don't understand.

Basically your current employer CANNOT sack you just because a potential new employer asks for your references. Hope that helps

    Hi twiglet,

I'm never in favour of saying too much when it comes to my past financial mistakes, and I wouldn't hesitate to "bend the truth" if there was no chance of being caught out. The problem you've got is that your bankruptcy will stay on your credit files for 6 years and any check on Experian or Equifax would reveal that.

The "check my file" that you've bought are not always that thorough, and unless you know what system your potential new employers use then I think you ought to assume that it'd be one of the major ones. If you say that you've never been declared bankrupt then you have to weigh up the chances of being trapped in a mis-truth.

If I was in your position, I think I'd look at the odds as not being very good and come clean with the past; you might be pleasantly surprised if you can come up with some convincing reasons why it happened.

    Regards

    Richard
  • Be honest as you could be fired from the new job if you hide information as for the old job you shouldn't have a problem.
