I have about £2k worth of UKWIND shares in my SSISA. I bought them instead of putting money into Ripple. It may or may not be a better investment (only time will tell) but I was more comfortable with that approach to investing.
Edit: looking back through the thread I see I mentioned this in September too. sorry for repeating myself!
I pretty much share your views on this.  It's more flexible and I think less risky than Ripple.  I actually don't think it is particularly risky on the whole.  The investment and dividend policy appear sensible and reliable. There's no fantastic gains to be made but there will be some ups and downs in the profits.  All in all  to be invested in renewables with some (weak) form of matching to individual consumption then  I don't think there are many better opportunities - personally.  And of course this isn't a recommendation just my personal views.

I can empathise with your views here and indeed after retiring we too felt S&S ISA's to be the safest option for our limited savings. or at least, as could be achieved when investing outside a bank or building society savings account.
Following a fresh focus into ES&G principles it was only some eighteen months later we discovered it was not possible to re-direct the investments we'd made into these areas or, if we did, there would still be a management fee to service!
Not daring to risk my wifes investment I began withdrawing and redirecting mine into various renewable projects from crowdfunding schemes through to shares listed on the LSM. Three years later and I've now diluted it all into no less than twenty six separate projects, Ripple being one of them.
In the four and a half years since inception the S&S ISA has gained 13.24%, nearly 3% pa so several times better than current savings accounts, be they ISA or otherwise.
Of the twenty six others one has sadly declined, losing approx 90% of it's value. Fortunately the remainder appear to have more than made up for it with total returns of 32.25% or approx 11% pa. Admittedly there has been no management fee to service and of course there is no guarantee for their future prospects! But for the time being at least, I'm having a ball! B)

Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but this scheme is currently open for investors through Abundance.

It's called Iduna 2 and will fund EV chargers in Greater Manchester. It's a 5yr 8% investment but read the documentation for full details and the repayment timetable.
Iduna — the company behind Be.EV, Greater Manchester’s biggest public EV charging network — has a mission to accelerate the roll-out of new green transport infrastructure across the North West of England. Their second investment with Abundance will fund 65 EV chargers to help build a modern charging network and boost EV uptake across the region.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Being on PAYE all my working life I haven't had much to do with income tax or how to claim relief upon it. In addition other than taking out cash ISA's and a single S&S ISA I've little knowledge on what you can and can't do with the various options, so when Ethex the crowdfunding platform announced they were running a webinar upon such matters I made sure to tune in and very helpful it was too. For instance I didn't realise that several investments I held with EIS certificates qualified me for relief on the income paid in that financial year. I'd previously thought they were simply for making some sort of claim if the investment turned sour!
Anyway, received a link to the recording by email this morning with the invitation to share with others, so please find below. It's about an hour in length but worth the investment.

Really sorry you didn't know about this. I'm glad you now know though.  Does the video tell you if you can claim back from prior years? I'm pretty sure you should be able to, I'd certainly talk to HMRC about it.

Thanks ET, I Haven't been able to speak with anyone as yet on the number listed or found any local tax office listed with contact details. But on the Gov website I have managed to follow online links to establish that this is possible. I believe it was also mentioned on the vid. Subsequently I'm advised that I need to apply via filling in a Self Assessment Tax Return. Not something I've previously needed to do, so not looking forward to it, but guess it's just something I've got to work through!

  • Via the Abundance website Carbon Plantations are seeking to raise £4.7M to fund a 195 hectare tree plantation in Suffolk. Replacing  previous intensely cultivated land used for the rotation of root crops. Supposedly lots of benefits although it will be a first off in the UK for the fast growing deciduous tree specie intended. It's a scheme of ten years duration with a projected return of 8% per annum so perhaps not for the feint hearted, the offer document is 67 pages worth.

    Carbon Plantations

Your money will fund a 195 hectare deciduous tree plantation which is expected to absorb 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over its first ten years. The site will also produce sustainable UK hardwood timber, while boosting biodiversity and regenerating intensively cultivated land.

At least you've made progress! tax returns are a lot easier than they used to be.  I'm happy to help if you get stuck.

  • Thanks ET, that's most kind and reassuring to know. I'll download a form and work my way through creating a list of those matters beyond my comprehension. Hope it's not too long! :)
