How does PayPal handle Amex refunds?

Evening all. I have a refund coming from TUI for a cancelled holiday. Payment was made on my Amex via PayPal, as TUI doesn't take Amex directly.

Question is, will the refund automatically go back from PayPal to my Amex as a credit balance?

I've not found a clear answer to this online and to be honest it would actually be better if it stayed as a PayPal account balance that I could withdraw to a bank account (which I think I would need to set up a link to - up till now I've only ever used PayPal for routing Amex payments...).

Yes it will be credited back to your Amex card, unless it was more than six months earlier in which case it might be different - Paypal has a time limit.

I understand why you chose to pay this way, but just checking you are aware that the usual benefits of using Amex do not apply when paying via Paypal (bar the points)?

Yes, know about the lesser protection you get from going down this route, but as it was a package holiday and we have good insurance, the lack of s75 wasn't really an issue versus getting 1.25% cashback on a pretty substation all sum...
