Thanks for your advice everyone. I’m just going to get a new one as I think this one would be expensive to repair and I got it half price in a sale anyway - reduces from £700 to £350, so it owes me nothing really x1

Chances are it may simply be the carbon brushes need replacing which is fairly straightforward and cheap to do if you can access and remove the motor.0

I’m not able to take it apart on my site own so I’m wondering if you think it’s worth trying to get it fixed or just invest in a new one? I’m worried about continuing to use it in case it goes on fire as the noise is horrendous. I was sat yesterday at the back of the garden with the kitchen window open and had to shout on the phone to be heard and it’s a long garden!0

notjustamum said:I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis AQ113D 697E Eco Tech 11kg machine. It is making a seriously loud noise, especially during spinning and a 45 min wash took nearly 2 hours! When I emptied it I found the drum doesn’t move freely when I try to push it around, it seems to ‘bump’ around like it’s come off it’s runners. It’s 5 years old. Is it worth getting it fixed or am I better getting a new one? Thanks
A quick pull out, a few minutes with Philips screwdriver to take access panel off, check belt, take it off is easy, then turn drum by hand.
If still bumpy then probably you are correct to get new machine. As others have suggested perhaps bearing.

If it was motor that would overheat and cut out or smell of burning or both, might be something in belt or pulley , check those if you can,but most likely culprit is bearing. 5 year old Hotpoint will be Indesit in posh coat or maybe already under Whirlpool as they bought whole Indent at around that time , in any case only thing common with old British make is the name and is Indent, Whirlpool ,Creda etc in different coat but with the same bits inside and will have almost certainly sealed drum/tank so you can't change bearing anyway, whole new drum assembly will be some 200 + labour so new machine time most likely. Those sealed tanks/drums are really order of the day on cheaper brands as that's how they can sell more of cheap machines - making them not worth repairing. Only one brand I am 100 % certain that make no machine with sealed tank, but they don't come cheap. Having said that - I value quality material and quality engineering and machine designed to last ( that is simple to take apart and put back again ) higher than 50 different programs and " features " and massive kg load coupled with tiny bearing and plastic tank - designed to last 3 - 5 years max.....0
