Tesco bonus points slips

Options
Sometimes when you go through the tills at Tesco you wil get an extra slip or two which give you extra points or money off if you buy certain products.

I have been working on a theory for a while. I only seem to get issued with these if I go to Tesco on Monday. Four times it has happened now, all I have to do is remind myself its Monday and I have to get myself to Tesco!

It does not seem to matter how much or how little shopping I do and I always get given two vouchers.

These vouchers dont seem linked to your tesco card because I have used other peoples vouchers - pampers, lynx, chocolate and organic food vouchers I've used for extra points.

Today I got extra points voucher if I buy Essentials (not one of my usual mags but worth buying for the points). Also I got a voucher for Comfort fabric conditioner, 50 points (I changed over to using bog standard fab con a month ago)

Anyone else got any theories?

I seem to get these whatever day i shop there, i got one yesterday!!
  • I love these vouchers, I use my points for deals, so I buy everything even if its stuff I don't usually use. A good way of saving for me. Recently I had 200 points if you spend £5 on the Butcher counter. I bought a joint of meat for £5 and got £8 back in deals tokens! We are off to Disneyland Paris next month with my Tesco points.

Yes I tend to buy whatever product gets me extra points.

A couple of weeks ago I had a 50 points voucher against any bacon or sausage bought at the deli counter. We have'nt got a grill at the moment (long story) but I bought just one cheap sausage, which I put in the freezer (someone is going to need a sausage for scouts before long!).

OK confession time. I was stood outside Tesco at Broughton (pity its a bit of a drive for us becuse this Tesco seems to take whatever money off coupons I give them!) and noticed this points slip blowing along the floor. I have no shame so I "tidied" it up. 50 points is 50 points though so it had to be done :)

My mum gets them regular but I don't. I think that they are linked to products. Mum regulary gives me the petrol discount voucher for 5p per litre off and me and hubby fill both cars and save a few pounds!

Interesting, not thought of filling both cars but using only the one 5p off a litre Tesco petrol voucher. Is that allowed? Noticed that our Tesco put its fuel up 1p this morning :(

I dont see why not, it says valid for 1 transaction upto 100litres i think on the ticket. My car will only take 40litres, so theres no reason why i cant fill my girlfriends car up, then fill mine up also. As long as you dont put the pump nosle back on the pump, as it will close the transaction. Alternatively, you can take a few petrol cans with you and fill them up at the same time.

These vouchers do not depend on the day of the week, they run for a specific amount of time, usually 7 days. They do however depend on you.

What, on the face of things seems a nice simple loyalty card, is actually the most state of the art direct marketing tool in the world. Every time you swipe (or scan now!) your clubcard, Tesco take note of everything you have bought. Over time their highly specialised system analyses your shopping habits etc etc and puts you into groups. You then get vouchers when they are targeted at specific groups. It is very clever.

Its all win-win for Tesco's. Suppliers/Brands will PAY TESCO a commission of their sales increase for an offer period. Tesco also know that give someone a voucher and there's a very good chance they'll buy the product, even if they wouldnt usually. So the money going in their tills increases. Money from suppliers, money from consumers.

Increased sales/higher brand profile - Suppliers happy.
Money from suppliers and customers - Tesco happy.
Extra points - Money off - Customer happy.

    Its shear Brilliance!

Yes a brilliant system that suits everyone.

But I have only ever got these vouchers when doing a shop on a Monday. And mine last about three weeks or a month. Yesterdays vouchers both had July 3rd as their closing date.

    On a similar note,

How many of us actually check we have been given the points? At the bottom of your receipt it says how many points you have up to the previous day. the points for this reciept are shown in the higher total tommorrow, so add your points today to the total points from yesterday and you should have your points total as it will appear on your next reciept.

I ask this of us because the other day I purchased 50 quid of groceries (to get the petrol offer) and I gave in a double points coupon, and a 50 points for purchasing organic veg. so my total points should have been 51 X 2 + 50 = 152 or (51 + 50) x 2 = 202 depending on how it gets worked out I suspect it would be 152.

The bottom of the reciept said points this visit 101 including clubcard points coupon 50. So they have not doubled the purchase 51 to 102. I didn't ask because I have asked about this before and they say it will show up on your next reciept, well I now have the next reciept(s) and it is obvious from the totals that the double points did not work on that day.

So check your totals in future.
