I can't seem to find any info anywhere... wondering if I can find out some way if I have been furloughed, when my employer has told me I haven't?

At the moment no but they may publish information in the future, but unlikely. Although at the end of the day if they have furloughed you and not told you what difference does it make to you? You would still be getting paid. They would be the ones in trouble if it came to light.  I am sure a fair few companies will do it and the employee will never know.

I think Adrienne means can employers claim furlough and not pay employees anything, just lay them off?  HMRC would be able to check payroll information just submitted, the employee would be showing wages and any tax and NI deducted, no deductions then assumption would be no wages paid.  No wages paid employer not entitled to furlough payments.  HMRC and government do not just give out money.  There will be audit trails.

Theoretically an employer could lay someone off, but continue to put their wage through PAYE and pocket the net themselves, then claim that the employee was furloughed, but this would be fraud, and these things tend to come to light if, for example, the person laid off claims UC on the basis that they have no income, but the employer has updated their journal to show the fake pay.
