New property right next to fence - old planning permission

Hi All
Does anyone know what the law is with regards to building a new property within a metre of a boundary line/fence?

From what I can find, the planning permission was granted in 2004 for four properties in a strip of land at the back of my property. Three properties were built long ago and it seems now the fourth has suddenly sprung up from nowhere right against my back fence (the right hand corner is within a metre of the fence). The footings could have potentially been in for a while, I've no idea (so could well have been started within the three years of original approval). There are no drawings etc on the council website showing the plans....

The issue is, our development of bungalows came much later (only four years ago) so the planning was probably granted after theirs. Any thoughts ?

So check the plans at the council offices (whenever that becomes possible) and see whether the development has been done in accordance with the approved drawings.

Is your fence where it's meant to be?

There's nothing blanket to say that a new building can't be 1m from a boundary fence.

The original PP was clearly granted long before you bought your place, so there's not much in the way of grounds for any retrospective appeal - and, once the works have reached the height they have, it'd have to be a major breach for the LA to do anything about it, especially at the moment.

Frankly, I'm more surprised they're actually working currently.
