. I'm just wondering if I manage to get the £500 and give it back to the bank and let them return it to wherever it came from or keep it( Idm what they do with it) that they would discard everything. Whats worrying me the most isn't the bank account closing as I can get a card from anywhere else, I'm just scared about the CIFAS as it'll mean my whole lifes ending just when it's beginning to start.
    Not a chance.

That's like stealing a car and handing it back hoping you do not get prosecuted. As well as who are you going to give the money too?

Given you are a student, these accounts are a well known mule route.
You are correct you have ruined any chance in the financial sector.

You have now learnt a very hard lesson about life.

Why give the cousin £500 when you were already owed £150....
    Life in the slow lane
  • I got sent 650, 150 was the was mine and 500 was for the 'friend'. So I will try to get the 500 back.

Save your efforts. It won't help.

    Next steps:
    1. check CIFAS in a couple of week's time. You may not actually have a marker
    2. if you have a marker,
      1. you might still be able to get a current account with a local Credit Union
      2. you'll have to find a job with an employer who doesn't check CIFAS
      3. the marker will probably be deleted in 6 years time, provided you have no new incidents with 'cousins'

Once the CIFAS is expunged you could always go into the financial sector if you so wish.

OP listen to me as I want to help you while other people here just seem to be just be reprimanding you.........

........I suggest you apply for a basic bank account in the meantime because you can only get rejected for these due to fraud/CIFAS markers.
A basic bank account has been suggested already. So has a Credit Union one. Plus, the OP has been directed at CIFAS. By all means, support those suggestions but please don't suggest that you are the first one offering help, notveryeducated.

Chalk it up to experience. You've been shafted. The money has been moved on a long time ago.

Been around the forum for too long to spot stories that have holes in them and this i am afraid looks like another one. You gave your friend £150 and his cousin transferred £500 to you and you gave him £500 but didnt take the £150 owed? Was there even a £150 debt? My gut tells me you, you have got yourself in some bother and are looking for a plausible story to get yourself out.

First thought that comes into my head - why did the cousin not take the £500 of his cousin and give it to me? Why is he asking some random stranger. Why didnt he ask his parents? His friends?

Story stinks imo. Clearly some sort of fraud going on, doubt its money laundering. Looks like its just a scam of some sort, using stolen money or selling something and not sending the item. Could be anything. The only question is whether the OP was in on it or not

As I said I got sent £650 and £150 was mine and the £500 was for the 'friend'. The thing was we was together at the time and I started asking him about my money and he said he doesn't have any right now. He talked to his cousin and he's cousin and the rest happened. I didn't know if it was fraud and still don't know yet as what I'm being told by the bank and 'friend' don't add up.
