Incorrect Default On Credit File

Options
In 2014 i got a default because I was young and stupid with money! it has been on my credit report since then, however, I paid the total amount in 2017 and the default should have been classed as "Settled". I only recently noticed that the default is still on my credit report and not settled! I contacted the company I have the default with and they are now settling the default but this has been on my report for 2 years unnecessarily, during this time I have got a credit card and a car on finance, The only reason I noticed this is because I'm now going for a mortgage! having this default has meant that I have got higher interest rates and fewer options when getting credit. Is there anything I can do as any kind of compensation or anything like that as this has massively affected my credit report!

settling a default doesn't mean it gets removed from your credit file.  you don't have any claim here.

Yeah i understand it stays on my report for 6 years, however, having it settled is a lot better than showing as left for 6 years

Could you provide an insight into how this is the case?

With it due to drop off this year, are you really that bothered about it?
  • Default Removal time frame info
Got one due off April 16
Is it actually removed that day
I successfully got this default backdated
