Hi all. Looking for help. We have good internet in the house, but need to get it to a granny flat in the garden, approx 15M away. The flat is on a different wiring circuit to the house, so an extender is no good. Needed for watching Netflix/browsing.

Any ideas?

Can you run some ethernet cable out to the building? One suitable for the outdoors, and to being buried underground.

As dan said, cheapest and best option is a network run

Ok, with my basic knowledge I guess that would plug in to the laptop, but how would I get internet on, say a phone?

No you run the cable from your router to the granny annexe and add a repeater, or a spare router.

You need a LAN cable from your router and a Wireless Access Point in the granny flat.
Old routers can be configured (as a WAP) to do the job as long as you are able to log in to the settings page, instructions can be found via a search engine.

Gave my brother a BT Wifi extender that does a similar job  circa £20 from Tesco .

15 m and at least two walls, depending on where the router is located, might be OK for emails, but highly unlikely to support Netflix.

I have BT BB and they give us extra wifi disc(s) as part of the complete wifi package. This extra disc has an ethernet port on the back of it. That I assume can be used to run an ethernet cable from the main router to the wifi disc.
An ethernet cable is useful up to 100m so that would work if you are with BT. Upgrade to the complete wifi package and get the disc.
You can then connect the phone wifi to the disc normally using the normal router wifi codes.

If you are not with BT and your provider does not have a similar product then what I would do is still run an ethernet cable from the main router out to the GF and attach a wifi access point, or a simple LAN switch if the person only needs wired ethernet to their PC.

These things are simple to do and will give a full BB experience, and the wifi will connect with the codes in the access point.

Ok I'm going with the cable and WAP option later today. I'll let you know how I get on! Thanks all.
