Brand new Xbox One S - out of warranty?

Are they issuing warranties with these things any more or not? I rightly/wrongly assumed it didn't matter how long the console had been out for?

Story short, my brother bought an Xbox One S at the start of lock down to pass the time. Bought it from Game online.

First bit of trouble he had was with some free code that came with the console inside the packaging for Xbox Live. A free trial of some description. It said the code didn't work, invalid or something along those lines. Not sure how this was the case as the code was inside the sealed box.

I asked him today if he had registered it, just in case this was a required step should it ever need repairing. He said he hadn't & didn't know how to, so he whatsapped me the serial number and his details and i did it while i was on the PC for him.

Under the "device service and replacement" section of his Microsoft account it now lists the Xbox One but under this in a clear yellow box it says OUT OF WARRANTY.

He's only had the thing a couple weeks. How is this so?

Warranty is of course not his Consumer Rights .
Warranty is subject to the T&C of the manufacturer .

Manufacturers often start the warranty date from the date of manufacture however if you ever have a problem you send them proof of purchase and they update their records. They have no way of knowing whether something was sold the day after it left their warehouse or if it sat on a shelf in a shop for 2 years before it was purchased.

    Ok.
But i see no "T&C of the manufacturer" forum. I see a Techie forum and a gaming forum but thought it may be ok to post here.

So you would expect him to have no issue should he need to call on a 1 year warranty, providing he keeps proof of purchase?

That's a question you (he) needs to ask Microsoft. Regardless of warranty he always has Consumer Rights with/against Game.
