Holiday refund

Afternoon

I know you and your team are very busy but I wonder if you can help.

We had a holiday booked 2/4/20 it’s was cancelled around the 25th March for obvious reasons. We booked though hays travel who in turn have booked it through Redsea holidays. On cancellation of the holiday we called Hayes and spoke to our contact and she put in to redsea holidays a request for a refund. They dragged there feet and said they couldn’t do anything until Abta said what they were going to do. I have now contacted redsea travel directly as I would like a refund I’m self employed and have no money coming in and I have no chance of booking another in the next year or so now as I’m going to have to struggle to stay afloat myself.

The lady at redsea Marie wasn’t helpful and very short and simply said they are all working remotely and there is nothing they can do until they are back working as normal? Is this right? Do you have any suggestions on what I can do.

Thanks
 Carl Marsh

Not on the current climate .

Most customer service centres are running on a skeleton staff , or a reduced number working at home. Their hands are tied by their bosses.

They may offer a voucher , a firm of deferred refund .

Section 75 claims are getting told to approach your insurance or travel company .

Claim on your travel insurance ?

I'm afraid it is a waiting game.  You need to know what their proposed resolution is before you look at options to recover your money.  You don't have a contract with Redsea so they don't have to deal with you at all.  Your contract is with Hays, so it's them you need to be chasing.

But keep in mind that all Hays Travel shops are closed inline with current governmental restrictions and the majority of their staff, other than a few key workers are now furloughed.

In fairness, Hays Travel can also only follow what Red Sea Holidays are doing/offering.    At the moment that is likely to be a credit note to allow you to rebook or to claim a cash refund after 31 July 2020.

For now, one to stick in your Pending tray.
