Hi all,
First of all - I've tried phoning the DVLA and they are only speaking to key workers at this time so therefore I have resulted in this forum.

My MOT is due for renewal at the end of this month, and I have just received my car tax reminder. I've just tried to go online and pay for the car tax, and I was declined due to not having an MOT certificate.

I understand that we're automatically granted an extra 6 months to have an MOT, but what are we supposed to do about taxing our vehicles during this time? I'm checking the DVLA website to hopefully see my MOT date renew for an extra 6 months, so I can pay for the car tax, but nothing has changed yet...

Thanks in advance.

The online renewal includes an automatic verification that the car has a valid MOT, which is a pre-requisite to taxing a car, which is what you've bumped up against. The DVLA coronavirus update page advises that MOTs dates falling after 30th March will be automatically extended (on their system), it details how you can check as well as providing  an email address for you to contact if this has not been done for your car.  Once this is/has been done you should be able to buy the tax online as usual.
This forum wont let me post the link but google Gov UK  Coronavirus MOTs due from 30 March 2020

I'd wait a couple of more weeks yet but keep checking the dvla vehicle enuqiry page to see if/when your vehicle's MOT has been updated. At that point you can sort your tax online.

One of our cars had the extension applied about a week before it had expired. So should give you enough time to pay your VED before the deadline.
