Old Style Daily Tuesday 7th April

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Good morning everyone. I can't seem to stay asleep past 3.30am so I thought I would start us off. It doesn't seem to make any difference what time I go to bed so I am used to it now.
Had such a mixed day yesterday. I woke up very tearful and quite angry at the whole being forced to stay home scenario and I was missing my girls and grandchildren so much it was like a physical pain. Poor Steve was trying his best to cheer me up but it just wasn't happening. Anyway, he had to go and get some bread and other stuff from the supermarket and when he returned he presented me with a bottle of Baileys, some chocolate and a crafting magazine. How I love this man. It made me burst into tears again but this time they were happy ones. The next thing was that I received an email from my landlord saying I had won a draw and my prize was either £100 shopping voucher or £150 deposited in a local credit union. Well I chose the credit union of course so I opened an account with them the same day. Finally, I had a message from Universal Credit to say that I have been put into the group where I don't have to keep actively looking for work due to my disabilities and they had done a paper assessment so I don't have to have a face to face. This means we will get a bit of extra money too so it ended up being a very good day in the end.
Today I am going to Facetime the grandchildren as they have returned from their dad's house. Steve dropped off their knitted Easter presents along with a big bag of fruit on their doorstep when he took the dogs out for their daily exercise. In a lot of ways we are very fortunate that they live just round the corner and I am looking forward to having them come racing up the path again to see us. That is what I have to keep reminding myself, this won't last forever and it is so important to keep safe and well. I also hope Boris makes a full recovery. I am not a Tory by any means, in fact if you cut me in half you would see a red stripe and Labour written through me like a stick of rock
but I have been very impressed by the way he has kept us informed and I was comforted by the daily press conference at the start of all this. I wish him well.
Right, today is going to be a much better day, I am determined to be productive. I want to make a lemon drizzle cake and the eggless chocolate pudding/cakey thing that Jamie Oliver made a couple of weeks ago on his new show. We are also going to have a roast dinner as we didn't have one on Sunday due to a mix up with the veg delivery...all sorted now but I won't be using them again as they didn't even apologise after not delivering on Saturday nor did they answer my emails and phonecalls asking where the delivery was. Anyway, I shall be on veg duty and I fancy roast parsnips and potatoes so I will dust off my instant pot and parboil them in that before they go in the oven.
Steve stripped the bed and changed it yesterday so we have the old bedding to wash and put away. The kids hoovered through and cleaned the bathroom so that can be ticked off the list although both dogs are moulting like crazy at the moment and there are drifts of doghair like tumbleweed in the dining room. Lee is doing a great job clearing the garden ready to plant his veggies. I have finished knitting a duckling and a bunny ready for my sister and her daughter for Easter. I will leave them on our doorstep and she will walk up and collect them. I also have to post out the Easter cards for my nieces and nephews so will write them out today and get them off.
Well, this is turning out to be an epic post so I will shut up now and leave you all in peace. Hope you have a great day whatever you may be up to, take care xx

Good morning, it seems to be a fine morning here.Dumpling, i'm glad things have improved for you, you're sounding really positive. Hope your lovely Steve is ok as well.We started painting our dining room yesterday ( before everyone shouts at me we had the paint before the lockdown!). These days we tackle these jobs in a more leisurely fashion than we used to, While we don't want the house upside down for weeks, we don't go at it like we used to, heaven knows we have plenty of time!! DD said we could borrow their new carpet shampooer, once we've got both rooms done, she says it's pretty good. We'll continue with the painting today, in fact it will be completed today, and I'll wash the curtains.RR I had a laugh at the thought of you hurling your ironing board into the garden !! I iron some things, but I'm not the dedicated ironer I used to be.TA, hope the vet can help Sparkle.Bella, thinking of you and the family, in fact thinking of all my virtual friends, hope you have as good a day as possible.Take care folks17

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. Groundhog Day 23 here so what shall I do today then? Oh that's right, stay in and stay safe. The sun is supposed to shine all day (haven't I heard that before?!) so I might manage a bit of sitting out and reading in the garden this afternoon.
The Iceland delivery is due around lunchtime so this morning I must give the fridge a sort out and a clean. The only thing missing off my order is eggs. And none in Sainsbobs last week when DS went. Is everybody baking mad in their isolation. My order grew when DD asked me to put some milk and cheese on for her. She hasn't been able to shop for over a week but that's all they have run out of. She now feels much better and hopes to shop herself by the w/e.. Her main problem was the low back pain and a head that ached and felt like it belonged to somebody else. No temp, no cough, so doubts it was the virus and my girlies are all keeping well. Like DUMPLING I miss them so much. .
Had a long chat with DB on the phone last night. He went into isolation the same time as me but , unfortunately, SIL has had to go to Sainsbobs each week for supplies. Impossible to get a delivery slot. But so far both are keeping well. He was an electrician prior to retirement and has been amazed at the number of people ringing him up asking him to come and fix stuff. They seem not to understand what isolation means!
I won't waffle on about nothing any more. Just hope you are all keeping safe and well. With ((HUGS)) all round especially the poorlies, recuperating, sad or lonely. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"17 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light and dry underfoot.
Dinner last night was a chicken/rice and veg stir fry/jambalaya type dish - delicious it was too. Tonight is likely to be egg, bacon, sausages, beans and mushrooms.
Yesterday work was quite busy and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Had different customers saying how grateful they are we're still working to be able to assist them and that there are different strategies in place too help.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. It's bright and cool here still. Bit like me 😀
Last night I had a glass of wine (DM had a tiny amount too) whilst failing to answer questions on University Challenge, only got one right. Both teams had very clever members, apart from knowing stuff they made really good educated guesses. That was the highlight yesterday apart from the shopping expedition. Today I'll do a walk and may even venture into the back 'garden' here. It's more of a shared green space. I've never been down there before so perhaps it's time. I'm told it has decking which one neighbour has just repaired. Same chap is going to paint the main door, another is going to clean up the floor tiles in the close. People are bored. 🤣🤣
I'm contemplating going into the park which is right outside the front door. Trouble is that there is a very very steep hill down from the entrance to the river, not sure if I should tackle it going down or coming up (hip-wise). There's another entrance 200 yards away with a gentler incline. I may just wander the streets instead! 😂
It's rousing time. I hope that everyone can stay strong and positive. Happy Tuesday to all. 💕13 -
Good morning, lovely sun here. Yesterday was mixed so I didn't do any digging, just a little bit of weeding.
I used to iron most things, now it is just pillowcases, some of OH's shirts but not all, I dry things on hangers so that it shouldn't be necessary and in summer most of my things are linen or cotton so they do get ironed. Howsomeever it has failed to get done. Again.
Last night the chaps ate meaty stuff which I really didn't fancy so I made myself a small risotto. Then after I'd made it, discovered a punnet of mushrooms in the fridge. So today I'll have something mushroomy.
Dumpling, that's so nice of Steve.
Hope Sparkle's sore chin improves.
Have a decent day everyone.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Lovely sunny day here again I have a wash on the go which will be hung out later.
My sister phoned yesterday her partner has been in 'contact' with someone showing symptoms so my sis and him are now in isolation for 14 days
I do hope they dont get it my Bil has a really weak chest and bad astma, so we are now doing there shopping too as well as mums and OH's dads and our own !! I say we are doing it but its actually OH as I cant go out to shops etc, so yesterday evening managed to get two click and collect slots one for mum and one for my sister and OH is going to collect them both today and drop them off at each house, he will di his dads tomorrow and ours Thursday, I just hope he doesnt fall ill with it
The pressure washer came yesterday
OH and I spent a lovely few hours doing the driveway and front gate and fence etc and arguing about who's 'go' it was
I love it and keep adding to the list of things to clean. We then came in and had some lunch I had a shower and then prepped dinner and then went for my bike ride while OH took the dog out, I must say its lovely cycling on the roads atm as its so quiet, although I only go on the roads a little bit until I get to the cycle path..
Dinner tonight will be some liver with mash cabbage carrots and onions, no bacon to be had at all in the shops but I have just realised I have some chopped panchetta cubes in the fridge so might add those with the liver and make a lovely thick gravy.
Today will be housework and sorting the freezer and my cycle ride later, I am determined to get my heart working better and to get fitter for the op.
Im no Tory either but I do hope Bo Jo makes a full recovery.
Have lovely days all and stay safe. xx14 -
Morning everyone
Bright and sunny here this morning so I might get the grass in the back garden cut later. Busied myself sorting baby grand daughter next -size clothes yesterday . Despite being 15 months now she is wearing 6-9 months clothes now, so the next ones are 9-12 months....a lot are new things she was given for Christmas but most are second -hand so I decided to wash these to freshen them up.
Also have the job of altering her vests when she comes home from hospital as she needs ones with a slit across the middle for easy access to the peg...DD found some at M and S which have a flap with poppers on....£5.50 each!! It's good that they make what they call 'adaptive clothing' but the prices are ridiculous....so I'll be attempting to make them instead. I'm not the best sewer but I'm sure I'll manage.
The ironing question.....I do iron but not as much as I used to. When the girls were younger I ironed almost everything, now neither of them iron. If I wash little ones clothes I iron her tops and dresses...but that's because they're so cute and I'm her granny!
I've waffled enough...hope everyone has a good day

Morning All
I'm just back from a long walk, had to take the brownie blanket to the post office to send to DGD so went to the far away post office as it's open whenever the shop is. Walked back along the river which was looking splendid although not much wildlife this morning. There was a slight frost this morning but the sun is just peeping through, the washing can go out in a while.
The main part of the deck is finished, didn't realise how long it would take (it's across the whole width of the house), just the rails around the steps to do and I can do most of that standing up, no more kneeling!
Pleased to see you are all cheerful this morning, hope you have a good day. Take care. XX14
