Hi, please could you help me, I purchased a Groupon for afternoon tea for Monday 12 April 2020, as this can not happen due to the coronavirus lockdown I asked for a refund. Groupon are refusing to give me my money back in cash and are only offering me Groupon credit. Is there any thing I can do about this?

In short, no. Groupon have fulfilled their contract with you and supplied the voucher you paid for. You didn't buy afternoon tea from them. This is one of the problems of using vouchers in many situations. You introduce an intermediary which means you have no consumer rights with the actual service provider.3

Wonder how many more groupon thread are going to come..
Above is correct.Life in the slow lane1 -
It`s about time things altered regarding companies like Groupon .Many people buy the vouchers and yes, it`s usually a discount on the normal prices..but the purchaser does take a risk..on quality, size etc. Restaurants and hotels place themselves on voucher sites to fill their rooms/tables and not purely for altruistic ideals..as one person appears to imply when answering a Groupon complaint.
It`s certainly not obvious that one has to accept a credit and there will not be an offer of a cash refund when things, `go wrong`...as with the Coronavirus and the fact that vouchers can`t be used because the places are in lockdown. You buy the service of the hotel or restaurant etc.You can`t use them because they aren`t open. Refund the money or give a credit. I`ve taken one credit this week but I`d rather like a refund for the second voucher. I buy a lot on Groupon and I for one, am NOT happy at being told I can`t have a refund. Give me the choice, please.0 -
Don't use them if you don't like their terms of business. Pay by cash or card and get more flexibility with your rights.
They're cheap for a reason. They'll only change if people learn to resist a "bargain".1 -
