Re schedule cancelled flight with Ryanair

Hi
We were due to travel to Spain on Good Friday but obviously our flight has now been cancelled by Ryanair. As my husband and I travel fairly frequently on the same route we decided we would change the flight to September instead of asking for a full refund.
We did this yesterday and the flights were cheaper than the Easter flights but Ryanair took all of our original payment and did not offer to refund or credit the difference. Is this allowed ? I am absolutely fuming , the difference in our payment has been added to the booking as Fees ! I note that they will charge you the extra if the flights are more expensive !!!
I have tried to contact them but of course it is impossible so have instead completed a complaint form and submitted that.
Maybe something that others need to watch out for ?
Regards

That's outrageous.  Airlines are crying out for people to co-operate with vouchers rather than insisting on refunds.

Well worth a complaint, but as it's Ryanair I'm entirely unsurprised.

Seems very odd.  If you'd waited for a travel voucher, then they are useable multiple times, if you don't spend all of it then the balance remains available for another booking. https://www.ryanair.com/ie/en/useful-info/refund-voucher

Might be a quirk of the website, but I would expect as a minimum they should issue you a travel voucher for the difference.  Might be worth holding out for live chat on the website see if you can speak to them.
