New flue - planning permission?

I've just purchased a flat, and moved in to discover that the (very old - likely original from when the building was constructed in 1970) warm air heating unit is dead. It was already something I'd budgeted for needing to do, albeit not quite this quickly, and while the weather is lovely now, I'd rather get the ball rolling on getting it done sooner rather than later. I've had a couple of quotes for replacement (most of them done back in January before the purchase was finalised), and while they all have different suggested solutions, they all agree that I need a whole new flue installed.
In seeking approval from my freeholder, one of the questions asked was whether I had sought and received planning permission for the work (if required). Is that something I need to do? This may be a very stupid question, but this is all new to me, and I'm a bit lost!
Thanks!

I would have thought that if you follow building regulations, then no PP will be required.aestivus said:In seeking approval from my freeholder, one of the questions asked was whether I had sought and received planning permission for the work (if required). Unless you are in a conservation area or the building is listed, prior planning permission shouldn't be needed. The installers will take care of the paperwork for building control & planning (if required) under their self-certifying scheme. As for the freeholder, that will be for you to negotiate with and pay any (reasonable fees) they require.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
