Unable to pay last month of rent due to being forloughed

    They can be adamant if they like, but realistically they will have to accept anything you offer in the current circumstance.
    even in normal times it’s hard to get it from people that don’t have it.

    could you offer £25 per week? Or less maybe but indicates a willingness which means a court won’t entertain the case.

    Probably best to speak to them again then.  They should hopefully be less adamant under the current circumstances.  It would be sensible for all concerned to fund the two weeks owing from the 5 week deposit.  Explain that it will be the quickest and easiest (probably only) way for them to get the money owed.

    That's what I think that's the best thing to do too. I'm sure they'll also charge for bits here and there, so I'd even be comfortable for taking the two weeks, whatever is left for whatever they think the house needs doing. And hopefully they'll waive the silly reletting fees given the circumstances.

    Why do you think this wave the fees if they also have their back to the wall?

    Because,  given all the fees I need to pay, I'll get back less than a week's rent, even though agents/ LL will keep the two weeks. The LL/EA definitely won't be out of pocket and they were lucky we advised them about vacating the property 2 months in advance.thaats a separate matter though

    You should choose your battles carefully.  You have agreed the terms of early surrender including the reletting fees and the agent has found a new tenant promptly in order to release you from paying rent for the remainder of the contract.  The agent have incurred costs and it is unlikely the landlord will have benefited.

    So you have the moral high-ground to ask for the fees and rent to be settled from your deposit due to the difficult circumstances but you are going to lose that if you try to renegotiate the terms after your release.
