Post office staff asks too many questions...is it a right to know?

As long as its not on the prohibited list, if you dont want to say what it is then go in there with a pre planned answer of something with a similar size and weight. Job done.

I have a similar issue. In my local post office the self service machines are often out of use, so I have to go up to a till to do it. I do find it uncomfortable sometimes when they ask me. If it’s somethingI don’t want to share I lie and tell them it’s something else.
