Corned beef Help

I haven't tried these because they're not my personal taste, but here are a couple of "traditional" additions to corned beef hash:
Stir some cooked cabbage in towards the end, kind of corned beef bubble&squeak
Cook your CB/diced potatoes/onion in a frying pan till nearly done, make a well in the centre and break in a couple of eggs and cook till they're set.
My Mum used to make a lovely stew with chunks of corned beef inside the dumplings, I'm not sure of the exact recipe (think it involved a tin of Campbell's soup) but I suppose you could make a vegetable casserole with Corned Beef Dumplings. I think I ought to get her recipe book off my brother
An American friend raves about their version of corned beef, she says it's a bit similar to what we would call salt beef. I think she said they cook it very slowly till it goes all soft.0 -
I have a recipe for Chaos casserole:
I tin corned beef cut into cubes
1 tin new potatoes
1 tin baked beans
Tip all into a large casserole and heat thru in oven. Can top with grated cheese if liked.
This was from the pennypincher newsletter as a recipe suggestion for students. I've tried it and it is very filling. Would be great for a caravan or boating holiday meal. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Bogof_Babe wrote:Corned beef is not the same without the onion ingredient that is part of c/b hash. I don't much care for it sliced with mash & veg, or in a sandwich, as you really do need the fried onion to bring out the true flavour. So please don't write-off c/b hash (any recipe so long as there is onion in it) until you've tried it!
I can and I will Bogof_babe for one major reason.
Don't like onions. If they are in anything they have to be really really small and really well cooked as well so I can see them anymore.
I have visions of my mums shepherd pie (don't ask but we always called cottage pie, shepherds pie in our house. I assume because my dad did not like lamb)with long stringy bits of onion. Use to pick them out as the thought would make me feel sick.
Did I tell you I am fussy moo. Well I can't be that fussy as I am about 3/4 stone over weight. And I don't eat a lot of rubbish either. Just need to up my exercise me thinks.
